Nathan Smith

Senior Vice President

Nathan has nearly two decades of experience directing multi-disciplinary teams to develop and commercialize industry-level sustainability and stewardship initiatives. His work spans strategic engagements across professional services and technology, with a focus on partnerships with companies, trade associations, NGOs, suppliers, agribusinesses, and producer groups. Many of his organization-specific projects laid the groundwork for broader industry transformation and initiatives driven through stakeholder coalitions uniting business, government agencies, and NGOs. He played a central role in these precompetitive collaborations, advancing solutions that balance economic, environmental, and societal outcomes.

Before joining SCS Consulting Services as Senior Vice President, Nathan was the Vice President of Sustainability at Arable, where he played a key role in developing an innovative water stewardship model that was adopted by large technology and food companies working in collaboration with producers across water-stressed regions in North America. Previously, he was a Senior Vice President at SureHarvest, a subsidiary of Where Food Comes From, where he worked on strategic technology and professional services engagements for more than seven years. Prior to his role with SureHarvest, Nathan served as the Managing Director of the Food and Agriculture Division with SCS Global Services until 2016.

Nathan received a MA degree from the University of Arizona in Latin American Studies, with concentrations in Geography and Environmental Studies, and holds a BA degree in Anthropology and International Studies from the University of Washington.
